Short Film Script Call-Out: BFI Film Academy Short Course in Cornwall 2025

Screen Cornwall is pleased to announce that we've secured funding to run a BFI Film Academy Short Course for twenty 16–19-year-olds this autumn, for the third year. Applications for participants are now open and we are also seeking emerging writers aged 16-25 to submit scripts for consideration, three of which will be selected to be produced.

Writer Eligibility:

·      Cornwall-based

·      Aged 16-25

·      Have not previously had a script commission from Screen Cornwall

Script Requirements:

  • Length: 5-6 minutes (max. 6 pages)

  • BBFC Rating: 12A

  • Theme: "Wake up call". The lyrics in this beautiful song by Kitty Crocker provide a great jumping off point for creative exploration and this song will be available to license for the film should the filmmakers choose. Please note this is a thematic prompt, not necessarily the title for the film so please come up with your own title!

  • Formatted in industry standard software – free versions include Celtx and StudioBinder - and submitted as a PDF file.

  • All genres welcome, if achievable within production constraints.

Please download the brief for list of production constraints.

Submission Deadline: Friday 26th September 2025 at 12 noon

Application: Please submit your script using this form.
