Every year, Screen Cornwall works with Cornwall Council to commission a short film in the Cornish Language through FylmK. Running in partnership with the Cornish Language Office since 2019, this funding scheme builds on the strong tradition of previous short-form work in Kernewek through the Govyn Kernewek award. The fund has unearthed a broad range of genres and themes being explored in Kernewek and has provided local filmmakers with the space to create contemporary content that adds to the brilliant archive of shorts made in Cornwall, as well as building the profile for the language through recognition at film festivals such as Celtic Media Festival and London Film Festival. Some of these earlier works can be viewed via Tyskennow Kernow and at Cornwall365. We are delighted to open the FylmK commission for 2025.
